WELCOME BACK! It is time for another great
season of classical and pops concerts. It
seems like just yesterday I was welcoming
you to our musical performances and thanking
the many individuals and organizations who
make our programs possible. Thanks to their
continuing hard work, our 2008-2009 season
"Big Music for the Big Country" is here for
everyone to enjoy.
Last year was a transitional yet exciting year
for the Philharmonic. At the beginning of the
year, we were without an Executive Director
and our Music Conductor's contract was up
for renewal. We set an ambitious Annual Fund
goal higher than it has ever been before.
The Board recognized the need for new
approaches to seasonal fund raisers. Office
requirements, both in staffing and technology,
needed to be addressed.Gap broadcasting I American Eagle Airlines
I am happy to report to you all of those
challenges have been met head on with
great success. In November 2007, we hired
a new Executive Director, Leanne Baldwin,
who has brought energy, excitement, and
a vision to Abilene for how to make the
Philharmonic even better than it already is.
Our Music Conductor, David Itkin, renewed
his contractual commitment to our symphony
for three more years. Our Annual Fund
campaign collected more contributions
faster and earlier than in any previous year.
We added a Christmas matinee program in
December that was well received. The Board's
decision gave people an opportunity to choose
which performance they would attend. It also
gave more people the opportunity to come
for the very first time. Based on audience
feedback, we will continue this new tradition.
A benefit concert was held at the Paramount
Theater. It also was well received, and this
year we offer a Cabaret Evening with one of
our performing highlights of last season-
Byron Stripling.
Staff positions were thoroughly analyzed for
effectiveness and efficiency resulting in a
restructuring of some roles and responsibilities
along with some new faces to go with them.
Most exciting of all, through the hard work of
our Board technology committee, Executive
Director, and staff, we have secured grant
funding to purchase new ticketing software
that will enable us to provide faster and
better customer service to you our patrons.
We can now provide you with on-line ticket
purchasing capability.
As you can see, even with all the transitions
and changes, exciting accomplishments
occurred. Our Board and staff continue
to be proud of its commitment to be a
working organization dedicated to providing
our audiences the very best musical
experiences possible.
Enjoy the Season!
